Malta Citizenship by Investment (MEIN)

Successful candidates will be granted citizenship in Malta by a Certificate of Naturalization, which can also be extended to include their families. Once a candidate is awarded Malta citizenship, which includes EU citizenship, they have the right of establishment in all 27 EU countries and Switzerland. They also have the ability to set up business in Malta, and can get a Malta passport enabling them to enjoy visa-free travel to more than 170 countries across the world including the United States.

1. Investment Options

The applicant must fulfil 3 investment requirements:

  1. Make a property investment in one of the followings:
    • Purchase a real estate property of at least €700,000 to be held for at least 5 years; or
    • Lease a property with an annual rental of at least €16,000 for at least 5 years
  2. Make a contribution to the Malta Government of:
    • €750,000 (for 12-Month Residency); or
    • €600,000 (for 36-month Residency)

PLUS €50,000 for each qualifying dependent

  • Donate at least €10,000 to a registered philanthropic, cultural, sport, scientific, animal welfare or artistic non-governmental organisation or society

2. Advantages

  • Dependents include: spouse, dependent children up to 28 years old, dependent parents or grandparents aged at least 55 years
  • Member of the European Union and Schengen Area
  • Dual citizenship is permitted
  • Citizenship for life, applicable for future generations
  • The applicant can live, travel, work, study and buy land or property anywhere in the 27 EU countries and Switzerland
  • Visa-free travel/entry to over 170 countries including the UK, EU, Canada and USA (eTA)

  • No language requirement
  • No education or management experience required

 3. Requirements

  • Be over 18 years of age and non-EU citizen
  • Make qualifying investment and contribution in Malta
  • Hold the property investment for a minimum of 5 years from the issuance of the certificate of citizenship
  • Have a clean criminal record
  • Subscribe to a health insurance coverage for all family member
  • Be in good health and of good reputation
  • Evidence the investment’s source of funds
  • Provide proof of residence in Malta
  • Hold resident status in Malta for at least 12 or 36 months prior to acquiring citizenship
